Vancouver’s annual fireworks festival gets started in English Bay at 10 p.m. PT tonight with a display put together by a team from Japan.
The other two teams for this year’s Honda Celebration of Light are the UK, displaying on Aug. 2, and Canada, displaying on Aug. 5.
Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to pack the city’s West End to view the display each night.
Road closures will be in effect throughout the neighbourhood beginning at 7 p.m.
Festival organizers and city officials are strongly encouraging anyone going to the area to take public transit, bike or walk as very limited parking will be available.
The fireworks can also be seen from Second Beach, Kitsilano and Vanier Park.
The event also includes live music, family entertainment and an airshow.
